This antique Georgian mourning ring is built around a woven patch crafted from hair taken from a loved one of the original owner. The weave sits beneath a glass window at the ring’s heart, and is surrounded by lustrous Seed Pearls. Twelve deep purple, claw set Amethysts complete the piece. The gallery and shank have been crafted in Silver and gilded in 18ct Yellow Gold.
Mourning jewellery mirrored the lives and times of the people who wore it and sometimes contained the hair of a loved one so that a piece of them was always kept close to the wearer.
This ring was originally a brooch, and has been converted to a ring more recently. It is a beautiful piece, and a remarkable piece of historic craftsmanship.
